Despite their virtues, catamaran fishing boats have a boxy, awkward look about them that many anglers find hard to dismiss. The 2680 Coastal Runner is something of an exception—a good looking cat whose graceful profile at least minimizes the reality of her rectangular catamaran shape. The Coastal Runner is the first hardtop model from Glacier Bay, and she’s based on the same hull as the company’s popular 26-foot center console and cuddy cabin models. Like her predecessors, she’s a full-displacement catamaran (rather than a planing cat) and what she lacks in speed is made up in a softer ride and better fuel economy. What sets this boat apart from other Cats, of course, is her weatherproof pilothouse that will appeal to cold weather anglers. Note that the cuddy is slightly off-center to port which puts the cabin over one of the hulls, thereby increasing the headroom below. (It also means that the starboard walkaround is wider than the port walkway.) The cockpit is designed with built-in tackle boxes, a 32-gallon livewell, in-deck fish boxes and under-gunwale rod holders. A well-built boat, twin 150hp outboards cruise efficiently at 25 knots and reach a top speed of around 35 knots.
